Rainbow Day Nursery is staffed by experienced, qualified and dedicated professionals who use a balance of child initiated and adult led activities to support and enhance learning and development.

Our practitioners regularly participate in training courses to enhance their knowlege and skills to ensure that they are up to date with current best practises.

All practitioners at Rainbow are committed to creating a loving, happy and stimulating environment which responds to all children’s interests and expanding knowledge.

As a nursery we pride ourselves on our long standing members of staff including both our nursery managers who have been part of the team for 28 years and 14 years respectively.

Our latest Ofsted report (2013) says: “The management team are enthusiastic, motivated and inspire staff. They play an active part and role model good practice”

Senior Director Profile

Hello, my name is Gillian Finch and my qualifications are Cert. Ed. PPA Dip. I am the Senior Director of Rainbow Day Nursery.

I formed Rainbow in 1985 with just 20 children in attendance and three staff. The idea of a nursery was conceived for my grandson, Oliver, who had his second birthday the day before the nursery opened. Today through expansion, we have capacity for 65 children with 24 staff members. Initially we catered for 2-5 year old children but in 1994 we formed the Cherubs baby unit. In 2001 the adjacent property became available via a sealed bid and although scary I was lucky to win the bid and able to expand the pre-school plus provide a second large outdoor play area.

Personally I have four grown up children and five grand-children, mostly living locally in Poole with the exception of my eldest daughter Alison who lives in Bristol with her daughter Molly and my eldest grandson Oliver who is living in Melbourne, Australia. I married Brian in 2003 and now leave the day to day running of Rainbow with my son Gerry, albeit I am still on call, have an overall interest in Rainbow and work with some of the financial aspects of the company.

As well as the family I have many outside interests including Rotary, Inner Wheel and Church and have recently joined a Pilate’s class! My background was first in nursing and then in 1976 I qualified as a teacher, two qualities ideally suited to a career in childcare. It’s a wonderful, uplifting environment in which to spend one’s day, young children are a delight and their constant desire to learn and to be enthralled by the world around them never ceases to excite me. These are some of the best and most precious years for your young children, enjoy them, they pass far too quickly!

Business Manager & Director Profile

Hi my name is Gerry; I joined Rainbow in 2004 after a career in Business Management. I am the Business Manager and one of the Directors, I took over this role from my Mother who is still i
nvolved in the business in an advisory capacity.

I am an early riser and enjoy welcoming the parents and their children to the nursery in the morning. During the day, although my primary role is in the office, I frequently visit the children and have fun and
interesting dialogues with them. During the time spent with the children I don’t feel as though I’m at work but more like greeting part of the family!

My wife Naomi has worked at Rainbow since 2001 and is qualified as a Nursery Practitioner level 3; we have two sons who attended the nursery from babies plus recently our two grand-daughters were also Rainbow children.

The best job in the world, I only wish I’d joined the team twenty years earlier!

Managers Profile

My name is Jo and I’m the Manager at Rainbow Day Nursery School.

I began my journey at Rainbow in 2001 and qualified with an NVQ2 in Early Years Education in 2002 and then achieved NVQ3 in 2004. In 2014 after extensive study I completed a Foundation Degree in Early Years Level 5.

My main role is to ensure the day to day running of the nursery, meeting ratios and attending to the needs of the staff and the children as well as co-ordination of The Early Years Foundation Curriculum, and ensuring the highest quality of care and education for all our children. I also really enjoy showing potential parents around the nursery and giving them an insight into the nursery life.

I have been fortunate to have worked in all areas during my 15 years at Rainbow, gaining vital experience and knowledge with all ages and stages of development. I love the challenge of engaging children in their play, stimulating children’s thoughts and curiosity. I have a passion for using every day resources to provide children with opportunities to develop their imagination and inspire them to become creative thinkers.

Deputy Manager Profile

My name is Ria, i have been at Rainbow’s for 13 years and I am currently the Deputy Manager.

During my final year of college, where i completed my Cache level 2 and Cache level 3 Diploma in Childcare, I was fortunate enough to gain experience three days a week on placement at Rainbow.

When i qualified I was very lucky to be employed at Rainbow as a Nursery Practitioner in 2003. I worked in Sunbeams where I settled into Rainbow life with the two year olds.

On my next adventure I then became a senior member of staff in the Cherubs Baby Unit, caring for babies as young as 12 weeks.

I enjoy all aspects of the baby unit, watching babies grow and develop at a fast rate, caring for all of their needs and the lovely cuddles that I receive from them!

I especially enjoy baby weaning and baby led weaning, developing my own unique recipes and flavours.

Cherubs can be a parent’s first port of call and can be daunting for first time parents needing childcare. Putting parents at ease and answering any questions or worries is one of my most important roles. Helping that baby then settle and be a “happy cherub” is one of the most rewarding roles in Cherubs.

Nursery Advisor Profile

Hi, I’m Tracey! and I am one of the Nursery advisors here at Rainbow Nursery School.

I was accepted as an apprentice within Rainbow Nursery completing my NVQ2 at the age of 17 and still remain here 30 years later. I have one son who spent his nursery years at Rainbow.

During this time I completed my NVQ3 in Childcare and Play-work. Most recently I achieved my level 4. For 15 years I was The Senior Nursery Manager, however due to health reaons I have recently reduced my hours and role to become one of the Nursery Advisors.

My main role is to support and guide the staff in providing the highest quality of learning and education for all the children. I am fortunate that this allows me to spend quality time with the children. I really enjoy story time and often make up stories for them, they then play the roles of the different characters; the stories change each time and keep the children captivated and entertained.
